Hà Nội - Quán Sứ pagoda
In fifteenth century, Champa and Laos usually sent their envoys to Viet Nam to pay tribute to the Emperor. For that reason, by order of Emperor Lê Thế Tông, a resident quarter for envoys was established, called Quán Sứ (embassy). Because all of the envoys were Buddhists, the Emperor ordered building a pagoda in the precint for them to practice their religion.
On the first and fifteenth days of every lunar month, there are thousands of people coming here to visit or give offerings and pray. The pagoda still receives tens of Buddhists who often pay a visit here to pray to Buddha on ordinary days.
In 1934, Vietnamese Confederation of Buddhist Associations was established, therefore Quán Sứ pagoda was chosen to be the headquarter. Today, the pagoda is where Vietnam Buddhist Church. All around the walls inside the pagoda hanged many photos of the Buddhist Church’s activities.
The main gate
Surrounded by crowded and noisy streets and houses of the city, there is an old pagoda whose name was given to the street where it is situated. That is Quán Sứ Pagoda, located at 73 Quán Sứ street.

Worshipping
In addition to worshipping, the pagoda is also an archive of Buddhistic documents and classics and the most significant centre of preaching and spreading Buddhism.

Superior Monk Thich Thanh Tu
In the memorial hall situated the lifelike wax statue of the Superior Monk Thích Thanh Tứ who passed away. He made a great contribution in uniting the branches, thence uniting Buddhist organization in the country. He held many important positions in the Buddhist Church và was a member of the national assembly.
Vietnamese script
Quán Sứ pagoda is one of the few pagodas in Viet Nam using Vietnamese script to write big Han scripts on horizontal lacquered board and parallel sentences.
